Step 1

Resource Limits

Your server cannot exceed its allocated RAM/CPU. If you hit the limit often, reduce view distance / entities / plugins, or upgrade resources.

Step 2

Restart Policy

If a server crashes due to mods/plugins, automatic restart can loop. Fix the cause first, then re-enable auto-restart if you want it.

Step 3

Java Flags (Minecraft)

Use recommended flags for your Java version and RAM size. Avoid 'magic' flags from random sources; they can worsen performance.

Step 4

Backups Before Updates

Before updating server software, plugins, or modpacks: create a backup. It saves lives. And weekends.

Step 5

Permissions Hygiene

Give subusers only what they need. Don’t hand out 'Startup' or 'File Edit' permissions to random friends unless you enjoy chaos.

Step 6

Keep It Clean

Remove unused plugins/mods. Conflicts and outdated addons are #1 cause of crashes and lag spikes.
